How does it work from my computer?

Browsers

  • PC:  Internet Explorer or Google Chrome
  • Mac:  Safari
    • If you’re having trouble installing it from Safari browser, try using Google Chrome
    • You may need to install Google Chrome – if so, type ‘Google Chrome’ in your browser, then follow the instructions to download it

Accessing Apps Center for the First Time, Installing Citrix Receiver
I’m using Apps Center for the first time. What do I do?





  • Answer the security questions




  • Log in like you usually do at work




  • You’ll see the Citrix Receiver installation page
  • Click ‘I agree’, then click ‘Install’




  • Click ‘Save’ or ‘Run’




  • Follow the steps of installation wizard




  • Allow any add-ins or plug-ins




  • After installation is complete, you’ll see Apps Center home page


Accessing Apps Center for the First Time, Without Installing Citrix Receiver

I’m using Apps Center for the first time, and I don’t want to install Citrix Receiver. What do I do?



  • Answer the security questions



  • Log in like you usually do at work



  • You’ll see the Citrix Receiver installation page
  • If you don’t want to install Citrix Receiver, click ‘Log on’
  • Allow any add-ins or plug-ins



  • You’ll see Apps Center home page

Accessing Apps Center
From apps.HoustonMethodist.org, click plus sign (+) on the left

  • To see your available apps, click the links (top left of screen)
    • All Apps — every app available throughout Methodist (including MS Office)
    • Popular Apps — most commonly used apps (Word, Outlook, Excel, MARS, MethOD, HIS, HPF, LaborWorkx, My Computer, Intranet)
  • Click each app you’d like to add to your home screen
  • These apps now will be on your Apps Center home screen every time you log in
    • You can only log in apps you normally use
  • To remove an app from your home screen, right-click the app, click ‘Remove’

What if I can’t find an app?

  • Enter the name in the space at the top right corner

How does it work from my smartphone or tablet?

iPhone, iPad
To see apps on your iPhone, be sure to first add them to your home screen from your work computer. Otherwise, you won't be able to see them on your iPhone screen.

First, install Citrix Receiver on your iPhone or iPad.

  • From then on, just click the Citrix Receiver icon to get into Apps Center
  • Screenshots shown here are examples – your screenshots may vary slightly, depending on what version iPhone you're using

How do I install Citrix Receiver on my iPhone or iPad?

  • Go to App Store
  • Type in ‘Citrix Receiver’, click ‘Install’
  • Click ‘Open’, then click ‘Add Account’
  • Click ‘Next’ on your keyboard to show ‘Options’ on the bottom left-hand side
  • Click ‘Options’ at bottom left to show the screen below

  • Click ‘Manual setup’

 

  • For ‘Address’, use ‘apps.houstonmethodist.org’
  • For ‘Description’, use ‘Apps Center’
  • Click ‘Web Interface’
  • Click ‘Save’, upper right

 

  • Login like you usually do for remote access

 

  • To log out,
    • iPhone: Click 'Back' (upper left)
    • iPad: Click the small triangle by your name (top right), then click 'Log off'

 

Android Phone, Tablet
To easily see apps on your Android phone, first add them to your home screen from your work computer
– but you can still add them from your Android phone or tablet.

First, install Citrix Receiver on your Android phone or tablet.

  • From then on, just click the Citrix Receiver icon to get into Apps Center
  • Screenshots shown here are examples – your screenshots may vary slightly, depending on what type of Android you’re using

How do I install Citrix Receiver on my Android phone or tablet?

  • Go to Play Store, click ‘Apps’
  • Type in ‘Citrix Receiver’, click ‘Install’
  • Click ‘Open, click ‘Add Account’

  • For ‘Address’, use ‘apps.houstonmethodist.org’, click ‘Next’
  • When you see this message (‘Citrix Receiver could not verify the server address:  http://apps.houstonmethodist.org’), click ‘Manual setup’

 

  • Under Type, click ‘Web Interface’, then click ‘Add’
  • Under Description, you can enter ‘Apps Center’ or Houston Methodist’

  • Click the name you chose in ‘Description’ to begin using Apps Center

 

 

  • Log in like you usually do for remote access

  • To log out, click the small triangle by your name (top right)
  • Click ‘Log off’

OUTLOOK

My Outlook isn’t opening. What do I do?

  • When you first log in Apps Center, it may take Outlook a couple of minutes to launch

I can’t open my email on my smartphone. What do I do?

  • Try double-clicking on the email
  • Your reading pane may be showing the email, but you just can’t see it on the small smartphone screen (if you scroll over, you’ll probably see it in the reading pane)
  • Double-clicking will open the email without the reading pane

How do I close an email from my smartphone?

  • Click the small ‘x’ at top right
  • If you’re using an Android, you can see it easier if you enlarge your screen

Why doesn’t Outlook have my email signature and other formatting?

  • You'll need to set this up in Apps Center's Outlook, like you did with Outlook on your regular computer from work
  • Apps Center's Outlook will then save this, so you won't have to set it up again

What's the best way to download attachments in Outlook?

  • Save the document to your I-drive
  • This works for computers, laptops and tablets
  • For smartphones, this works for most Microsoft Office documents, but may not work for less commonly used apps, eg Microsoft Project

How do I see my personal folders in Outlook?

  • Click ‘File’, top left of screen
  • Click ‘Open’, then click ‘Open Outlook Data File’
  • You’ll see your I-drive, find the folder where your Outlook personal folders are stored, click it
  • Click on the folder to see contents

ACCESSING AND USING I-DRIVE

How do I see my I-drive folders from Apps Center?

  • Click ‘My Computer’ from Apps Center home page
  • If you click the folder icon (like you do from work), it won’t work

Why does my session keep timing out, even when I’m using an app?

  • It’s for security reasons
  • You won’t get timed out of the app you’re using (like Outlook), but will need to log in again to use another app
  • Apps Center times out after 20 minutes for apps you’re not using

When I log back in, I can’t access ‘My Computer’ (your I-drive). What do I do?

  • You can still access your I-drive by clicking on an app (like Excel)
  • Click the app, wait for it to open
  • From ‘File’, click ‘Open’
  • You’ll see your I-drive from there and can open the documents in that app

How do I print a new Microsoft Office document I created?

  • Save it to your I-drive
  • Close the document
  • Then open the document again, then you can print

Can we access SharePoint sites?

  • Most SharePoint site links aren’t listed in Apps Center
  • If you have your specific SharePoint link, you can access it from Apps Center
  • When you first open SharePoint, copy and paste in your specific link

How to access Houston Methodist Apps Center Using Citrix Receiver App for Google Chrome?

If you experience issues accessing the Houston Methodist Apps Center using Google Chrome, you can download the Citrix Receiver app through the Chrome Web Store at: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/apps.

  1. Search for Citrix Receiver and click + ADD TO CHROME.
  2.  

  3. When prompted, click Add app. You’re directed to your Chrome apps page.
  4.  

  5. Once installed, select the Citrix Receiver app.
  6. Within the Account URL field, enter https://apps.houstonmethodist.org and click Connect. You’re directed to the Houston Methodist Apps Center and can log in with your Houston Methodist User name and Password.
